School districts around the country are making the shift to align with the Science of Reading

Here’s why…

It is past time that evidenced-based practices were ubiquitous.

All students can learn to read when given explicit, systematic reading instruction.

Research should be accessible so that all educators feel equipped with knowledge.

And we’re on a mission to change that!

Through Unlocking SOR virtual conferences, we want to support you with practical, easy to implement strategies.

Literacy is in crisis in our country.

34% of our nation’s 8th graders are reading on grade-level despite the fact that 95% of our children are capable.

Amie is a K-5 Literacy Coach who’s passionate about creating hands-on + engaging literacy activities that follow the science. She taught in the classroom for 5 years before moving into her current coaching role where she has been for 7 years. Aside from being a literacy coach within her district, Amie mentors and supports teachers through her business Literacy Edventures and her membership Route2Reading.

Amie first learned about the Science of Reading while teaching first grade. When she began her teaching career, she thought she had it all figured out. She quickly discovered that programs and balanced literacy didn't work for all of her students.

She knew as a first-grade teacher, she played a crucial role in students’ literacy journey. She decided to go back to school and get her masters in reading.

While she was hoping this would be the missing piece, it wasn’t. She went back to get her training in Orton Gillingham and is in the process of getting LETRS training.

After many years of training, research, and testing, she finally feels confident that she is best supporting her struggling readers and she is excited to share these strategies with you!

Christina Winter spent 21 years teaching 1st grade before leaving the classroom to pursue her other passion of mentoring teachers. She now spends her days teaching and supporting K-2 teachers through her website Mrs. Winter’s Bliss and her membership Leaders of Literacy.

Throughout her years in the classroom, she was trained and taught her students literacy skills with the balanced literacy approach before accidentally stumbling on to the science of reading. Once she learned of the research it ignited her passion to learn more and has taken hundreds of hours of professional learning including The Reading Teacher’s Top Ten Tools and is in the process of completing LETRS training.

Christina is excited to share her passion for evidence-based reading and language arts instruction and can’t wait to hear about your students’ growth.
